Belknap County's only homeless shelter is going to triple in size. When renovations are done, the Salvation Army's shelter in Laconia will have 30 beds. But that doesn't begin to cover the need. An affordable housing shortage and increased lay-offs are contributing to the problem. Over a recent six-month period, area groups have counted more than 600 homeless people in the county.
