Day care centers in New Hampshire's Lakes Region are part of a study to find ways to improve early childhood education and make it more affordable.The area is one of four around the country participating in a project to help struggling centers survive, while enhancing their services. The project will allow all four sites to develop new approaches to early education and how to pay for it. |

Today the state's new conservation license plates went on sale. Clerks say their phones haven't stopped ringing this week from callers wanting the new plates. Only motorists whose birthdays are in December can go home with them. Others can get gift certificates for plates to be picked up in their birthday month, when they normally would re-register their vehicles. |

Responding to increased demand from first-time home buyers, the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority is making available more than 30 million dollars in new mortgage money. The agency's Single Family Mortgage Program will offer 30-year fixed rate loans to about 400 qualified buyers at rates as low as six-point-375 percent. Applications can be made through more than 50 lenders throughout the state. |
