Good Evening. I'm Allison McNair. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. We begin tonight with a summary of state news.
script iconJudicial Reform
Return to index of stories...
The New Hampshire Bar Association is urging caution and common sense when it comes to judicial reform. President Greg Robbins says the impeachment revealed problems with the court - not fundamental flaws. Legislators have drafted bills ranging from term limits on judges, rotating the chief justice position among justices and changing the way judges are appointed.

script iconVictim's Addresses
Return to index of stories...
Victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking will soon have added protection from the state.
On January first, - the Address Confidentiality Program will provide a substitute mailing address for victims. The idea - to prevent abusers from tracking people down through public address records. First class mail sent to the substitute address will be forwarded to the actual, confidential address.

Return to index of stories...
Temperatures will drop into the teens tonight - can you imagine having no place to go? On any given night, there are as many as 700-thousand people homeless in the United States.
And some of those people were remembered early this evening in Concord. This is just one of the 100 services scheduled in cities to mark the tenth annual National Homeless Person Memorial Day.
The services honor homeless people who have died of exposure, accidents, illnesses or in violent acts.
script iconHanukkah
Return to index of stories...
Around the world tonight, millions of Jews are celebrating Hanukkah -- the Jewish festival of lights --
Here in New Hampshire - the celebration began this afternoon with the lighting of the menorah at Statehouse plaza. The eight-day holiday is celebrated with lights and the exchange of gifts. Hanukkah commemorates the victory of an outnumbered band of Jews against an ancient occupier.

What can we do ahead of time to prepare, what are the main things to do in the home
Many people think they can't stay in their house without a generator.
How protect water pipes?
what if its too cold to stay in the house, where can people go?
Jim can talk about precautions like leaving early, before the snow is really bad.
what should you have in your car?
Do we really need all the gear on the list?

Here's a look at some of the stories making headlines in New Hampshire business.
script iconUNH Survey
Return to index of stories...
A new survey finds most New Hampshire residents believe state funding of higher education should be increased.
The poll conducted by the UNH Survey Center on behalf of business, charitable and University organizations found that nearly half of those polled would pay higher taxes to support the state's institutions.
The broadbased support of education crossed political boundaries as most said that education was not only personally important to them, it was also important to the state's businesses and economy.
The state currently accounts for 27-percent of the USNH operating budget.
script iconWolfeboro Airport
Return to index of stories...
Tonight, the fate of the Wolfeboro airport remains uncertain. The State supreme court has decided not to consider an appeal asserting the state's right to a first refusal to buy the airport. The dispute started early last year when the airport's owner offered to sell the property and surrounding land to a developer. Now, that deal is off - and the developer says he plans to sue the state for the way it handled the case.
script iconFish and Game Fee
Return to index of stories...
If you pay for a fishing or hunting license in New Hampshire - you may have to fork over more money in the future. For the first time in a decade - Fish and Game officials are asking to raise licensing fees. One reason - the rising costs of doing business. The fee hikes could range between six and 12 dollars over the next 3 years.

Good news from Cabletron Systems of Rochester. Its four subsidiaries had combined revenues of 265--million dollars in the third quarter, exceeding expectations. That translates to net income of four cents per share, compared to one cent per share last quarter.
Postive earnings will hopefully translate to an increase in Cabletron stock prices. Before the earnings report, Cabletron closed at 12 dollars a share, down from 12 dollars and 75 cents a share the day before.
