Good Evening. I'm Allison McNair. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. We begin tonight with a summary of today's news. |
Drug Abuse Prevention/b-rollReturn to index of stories... |
Today, Governor Shaheen launched the new Commission on Alchohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment. That's a long title, but commission members say that it sums up their approach to the problem. The Commission, which includes judges, legislators and treatment counselors, will emphasize treating substance abuse as a public health problem. Judge Kelly said the district court system has developed an experimental approach to juvenile drug cases. Five district courts will move cases involving children with alchohol and other drug abuse issues into a special session of the court. There, the children and their families will receive intensive intervention and treatment within their local communities. |
SUPCO BondsReturn to index of stories... |
The State Supreme Court has upheld a law that allows New Hampshire towns to have different standards for approving bonds to borrow money. The court ruled the consitution provides for equal treatment for residents of each community, not equal treatment for residents of different communities. The dispute has tied up more than 60 million dollars in school construction money in Peterborough, Weare, Winchester and Durham. |
Phone Scam Return to index of stories... |
State Attorney General Philip McLaughlin is warning New Hampshire residents about a new phone scam. It targets people who are eligible for refunds from Publishers Clearing House and the United States Purchasing Exchange. The A-G says someone is calling those people and asking for a fee to obtain the refund. McLaughlin says anyone eligible for the refund will receive it without having to pay any fees. |
SKi anniversariesReturn to index of stories... |
Two New Hampshire ski areas are celebrating anniversaries this month. Black Mountain in Jackson celebrates its 65th year this weekend with a retro costume contest Saturday and on Sunday those who buy a lift ticket will get a second ticket for the 1935 price of two dollars. Attitash Bear Peak in Bartlett celebrates its 30th anniversary next weekend. |
