hello - special Return to index of stories... |
Welcome to this special edition of New Hampshire Outlook. I'm Allison McNair. As the year winds down, many of us take a moment to look in the mirror and make some New year's resolutions. Some of us say will be more charitable. and get more involved in with our community. Over the past year we have come across some special people who are making a difference in the lives of others. We thought we'd share some of those stories with you again. |

Our first story was one of the most popular we've told this year. They have eyes you can't resist. They'll snuggle at your feet. Best of all, they love to be loved. That's why golden retreivers are known as people dogs. And there's a special golden in Hampton Falls we'd like you to meet. Her name is Lucy and she captures the hearts of everyone who meets her. |

Since we produced this story about Lucy, we're sad to report that Ernie, has passed away. His wife told us Lucy's visit made a difference in these last few difficult months. In September, Lucy received the first annual GRACE award, in Albuquerque, NM. She was chosen as the outsatnding rescued golden retriever in the US. For more information on Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue visit their web site at www.ygrr.org. To learn more about the PET visitation program, call 1-800-540-2981. |

Next to parents, teachers can have the greatest impact on the people we become as adults. Recently Chip Neal visited with two teachers who represent the best in New Hampshire educators. One, Nancy McIver, is the current "state teacher of the year" and the other, Willie Black, is New Hamsphire's only "National Teacher of the Year". |

This year's National Teacher of the Year will be selected in April from among all of the State Teachers of the Year. We wish Nancy McIver the best. And we congratulate her on being one of only two New Hampshire teachers to receive the Milken Foundation National Educator Award. The other New Hampshire teacher is Mark Kercher at the Newport Middle School. |

In our next story we have a classic example of a "a win win proposition" this one going on in Durham at the University of New Hampshire. A mechanical engineering class there has entered into a collaboration with a non-profit organization that collects and refurbishes discarded medical equipment and sends it to third world countries. Chip Neal has the story. |

Patricipants hope that the collaboration between UNH and the International Medical Equipment Cooperative will grow over the next few years, as the students contribute more and more, and IMEC expands the nature and size of its outreach. For more information call the people at IMEC at 603-740-4632. |
