After months of partisan politicking, Congress has passed a recession relief package.
The version falls far short of what President Bush wanted -- but it still provides for extended jobless benefits and tax cuts for businesses.
The vote comes amid new signs of economic recovery. New unemployment numbers show a decline in the national jobless rate to five and a-half percent.

More news from Washington. The U.S. Senate has agreed on a plan to phase out a controversial gasoline additive. State officials have been urging the federal government to allow them to ban MTBE in New Hampshire. The additive has been found to contaminate drinking water. The Senate plan would phase out MTBE over four years. New Hampshire officials have filed a request to ban the additive much sooner.

Owners of Rockingham Park- New Hampshire's only thoroughbred race track- are reportedly trying to sell the facility.
Built in 1906 and once a venue of nationally broadcast races, Rockingham Park may be facing its last season. A track official says in the last ten years, attendance at races has dropped more than 80 percent and track revenue has fallen by millions of dollars. Owners say it's the legislature's decision to not allow video poker at the track that prompted them into negotiations with potential buyers.
