Father Paul Shanley is under arrest. The retired Boston priest faces chages of three counts of raping a child with force. It's alleged the rapes occured between 19-83 and 19-90 while Shanley served in the Archdiocese of Boston. The victim was from Shanley's former parish in Newton Massachusetts. Last month, documents released by the Archdiocese of Boston show church officials were aware that Shanley advocated sex between men and boys. Shanley has also been named in a civil suit, along with the Boston Archdiocese. |

New Hampshire Bishop John McCormack says he wished he'd paid more attention to Father Paul Shanley's views on adults having sex with children. In an interview with the Union Leader, McCormack addressed his role as head of minesterial personnel at the Boston Archdiocese from 1984-1994. At that time, he was responsible for overseeing Father Shanley. McCormack told the Union Leader that he didn't think Shanley meant what he said regarding chidren seducing adults for sex. He told the Union Leader "I wish I did zero in on it more." The Bishop added ".Paul was known as one who would push the envelope and kind of make statements that were in some ways extreme. But I never thought he would practice it." He blamed a poor filing system as the reason he was not aware of numerous sexual misconduct allegations against Shanley. The Bishop spoke with the Union Leader and WMUR TV. |

The state Supreme Court Thursday rejected a request that it stay out of efforts to redraw New Hampshire's voting districts. House Democrats wants court to set a deadline for redefining the 400 House districts so they will be in place well before this fall's primary elections. House Republicans asked the court to dismiss the request But the court refused and gave the Legislature until May 17th to come up with a plan. |

In Concord Thursday, lawmakers approved a deal to help the Department of Health and Human Services pay its bills. It had been faced with a 17 and a half million dollar shortfall. Without the money, the department would have suspended payments to healthcare providers for the elderly and poor. |

It came down to the wire, but Cascades Incorporated submitted a bid for the idle pulp and paper mills of Berlin and Gorham. While details of the bid were not available the Canadian company joined Connecticut -based Fraser Papers as an interested buyer. The two companies will take part in an auction Friday afternoon. A bankruptcy judge will decide the winning bid on Monday. |

Voters in Berlin will once again have the chance to decide whether a new Federal prison should be built in the town. This week, residents from through out the area heard results of an independent study commissed by the Androsgoggin Valley Recovery Corporation. Theresa Kennett was there. |
