New Hampshire fishermen win a partial victory in the groundfish war. The State Supreme Court has its say on redistricting. And former President George Bush imitating Dana Carvey? We'll explain.
Hello Everyone I'm Ally McNair. Joining me on this Friday Edition of Outlook - Lars Trodson of the Portsmouth Herald, from the North Country Education Foundation, Edith Tucker of the Coos County Democrat, and in Concord, Norma Love of the Associated Press.
This week, the state supreme court weighed in on redistricting. After the House and Senate failed to come up with a plan, the court warned that it may wind up imposing its own - if lawmakers don't get the job done.
Norma how did we wind up with the state supreme court being involved in this?
SENATORS LEAVING
It looks like several state Senators won't be returning next session. Mark Fernald and Bev Hollingworth - are both hoping to become the democratic nominee for Governor and won't be filing for re-election.Senator Harold Burns and Katie Wheeler. And this week, Senator Ned Gordon formally thanked his piers as he said goodbye
Edith, Senator Ned Gordon has been prime sponsor of some 130 bills.What's the take on his decision not to run again in District two?
FISHING
It looked to some like the end of a New England way of life -after last month's ruling in U.S. District Court. Judge Gladys Kessler had severely cut back the number of days allowed for fishermen head out to sea. ut this week she abandoned her decision saying it wouldcause grave economic and social hardship, as well as injustice to individuals, to families, to fishing communities, and to surrounding cities and state.
Lars, the original decision from Judge Kessler resulted in the closing of the Portsmouth Fishing Co-op.
MOUNTAINVIEW
It took what most would say is a monumental effort to restore the Mountainview Hotel in Whitefield. This week, the resort celebrated its grand reopening for what many hope will be an economic shot in the arm for the area. Edith you were there.
BUSH
Finally, Franklin Pierce College opened it's state of the art media facility in Rindge this week. On hand for the dedication of the Marlin Fitzwater media center - some very important people - including Marlin Fitzwater himself along with friend and former president George Bush.

Return to index of stories... 		There is good news on the weather front. New Hampshire no longer has a drought emergency.
But according to the state department of water resources we're not out of the woods yet.
In some areas, especially south of the White Mountains, ground water levels still are below normal.
Everyone is being urged to continue water conservation, at work and at home, because the situation could deteoriate quickly during the summer.

Return to index of stories... 		Police will be out in force for the Memorial day holiday.
Highway construction projects are on hold to avoid traffic tie-ups.
Extra patrols will on duty to help stranded motorists and quickly clear breakdowns.
Police will also be on alert for people under 17--who are not wearing seatbelts.

Return to index of stories... 		People who want to participate in an alcohol-free event might think about the seventh annual Half Moon Sober Festival.Thousands of people are expected to enjoy camping, music, food and sports at the Ragged Mountain resort in Danbury.
The festival is designed to show participants that they don't
need alcohol or drugs to have a good time.
