On this week's Friday edition - Trish Anderton joins me from New Hampshire Public Radio, Lars Trodson of the Portsmouth Herald and via videophone in Gorham, Edith Tucker of the Coos County Democrat. The never- ending battle over redistricting continued this week in Concord. The state supreme court released its plan for the Senate. There was some concern over the court using the old wards for Manchester and Nashua. It would mean some would have to go to two polling places to cast ballots. On Thursday, republican House members managed to push two plans through -after the democrats walked out. Those plans later failed in the Senate. It looks like house redistrciting will be another job for the state supreme court. Trish Anderton quite a day at the statehouse on Thursday. Two words sparked intense debate this week - the words -Under God - added to the pledge of allegiance in 1954. The words were were ruled unconstitutional by the Ninth U-S Circuit Court of Appeals in California. One day later, the Judge who authored the opinion stayed it so the full court - nine judges- can review it. Edith what are you hearing about the ruling in the North Country? The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that random drug testing of students involved in extracurricular activities is okay. The court said the interest of ridding the campus of drugs outweighs an individual's right to privacy. Lars, drug testing has been talked about at Portsmouth High. A big day for the workers at the Cascade Paper Mills in Gorham. Governor Sheehen took a tour of the mill along with the new owners - Fraser Papers and local officials. Edith Tucker you were there. A Medicare prescription drug benefit has been backed by the house. Democrats say the bill is overly influenced by pharmaceutical and insurance firms. Trish the Senate will vote on the bill next month Dartmouth College has named JoAnn Harper - Director of Athletics and Recreation. Harper is the first woman to hold the position at an Ivy League.
