New Hampshire was a very different place a hundred forty years ago when the University of New Hampshire was founded.
More than 10-thousand students now attend the land, sea and space-grant university.
And there are big challenges ahead.
A new president started work this week.
Dr. Ann Weaver Hart joined me to discuss those challenges. We started off by talking about her first impressions of the Granite State.

Most of the students at UNH are in their twenties.
But New Hampshire also has a school for adult learners: The College for life long learning.
It too has a new president who was inaugurated this spring.
I recently had a chance to talk with Dr. Tom Rocco. He spoke of the need to provide the same financial aid and scholarship funds for adult learners as those that are provided for younger students.

-- One of the busiest general medical centers in
central New Hampshire has been fined by the state for violating
labor laws.
Concord's Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic has been fined one thousand
dollars for pushing several employees to work too many hours
without breaks and not paying them for all their time.
The violations are relatively minor, but former clinic workers
say they reflect many cost-cutting changes brought about by a
reorganization two years ago. One former worker said that ever
since, staff members found themselves working harder and faster.
A spokeswoman for the clinic said it acted quickly to correct
the problems. She said it involved a small number of workers at the
Concord site.
It is the second time the clinic has violated state labor laws.
