If you turned on a tv this past Wednesday, you probably saw images that you'll never forget. It was the day when US troops moved into Baghdad and declared an end to Saddam Hussein's regime. But - fighting continues in parts of Iraq and there's been a tremendous amount of of looting all over the country.
Edith you're a still photographer - which impacts you more?
Back here in New Hampshire.what's the talk been like over at the statehouse Tom.
Annmarie - you wrote about one college professor who is trying to keep a tally of Iraqi citizens who have been kileled. How's he doing that?
Edith - what's going on in the north country
Phil McLaughlin's son , Tim McLaughlin - US Marine 1st Lt. was owner of the American flag that was draped on statue of Saddaam.

The house finance committee finished its work on the state budget and there are two versions - committee chariman Neal Kurk refers to one as the "core budget." The other is an "add-on budget" which has 172 million dollars in additional spending.
Tom, this can get confusing.why two budgets?
Smokers may be paying more at cash registers in New Hampshire. The House finance committee voted to recommend a 39 cent increase in the cigarette tax - smokers now pay a 52 cent -tax per pack -.Even with the increase it is still lowest compared to surrounding states.
Two education bills were passed in the house on Thursday. House bill 608 - would reduce the statewide property tax.from 5 dollars and 82 cents to4 dollars and 92 cents. In this proposal, high school students would have to figure out their own way to get to school.because under this plan state money is only available for students up to eighth grade.
And speaking of education the house finance committee kept in a small amount of Governor Benson's proposed funding for charter schools. There would be 250 thousand the first year and 425 thousand the second year. Annmarie, you've written about Franklin and its interest in charter school. Word is that community would be first in line?
The House voted Thursday to boost Medicaid reimbursements to nursing homes, mental health centers and facilities that care for the disabled.
Under the bill, the state would apply a 6 percent tax on the facilities’ gross revenues. The state would ask the federal government to match the tax proceeds and then send the taxes and federal money back to the facilities.
The state senate okayed a 10-percent increase in their annual motor vehicle registration fees to help the state oversee garages that use state-of-the-art inspection equipment. That means the registration fee for small cars would go from 25.20 to 27.20.larger cars trucks pay 2.40 cent increase as well.

In the wake of the church's handling of the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church - there was a new call for Bishop John McCormack to step down last Sunday. Voice of the Faithful, an organization made up of laity from the Catholic Church, voted to call for the resignation of the Bishop AND the resignation of Auxilliary Bishop Francis Christian.
Annemarie you've been following this story for the Monitor.
