Benson would not say if he will veto the nine--billion-dollar state budget, but many believe he will since legislative negotiators made only half the spending cuts he demanded to avoid a veto. Benson said he is waiting for more information before deciding whether to veto the operating budget as well as the capital budget, a related tax on nursing home revenues and a new school aid distribution plan.

Were you one of those people inundated by pre-recorded political campaign messages before last November's election? Guess what? If you put your name on a list, you might not have to listen to them anymore! House and Senate negotiators have agreed to put restrictions on telemarketers - but before we all get too excited the bill has to get the okay from the house senate and the governor.

Senator John Kerry took some swipes at President Bush this week. While campaigning in Lebanon New Hampshire Kerry said the president waged war in Iraq based on questionable intelligence. This got a lot of play.

It feels somewhat voyueristic, but there's something about knowing how much money someone has. This week members of Congress released their financial disclosure reports for 2002. The reports will eventually be available on line. There is a lot of wiggle room in these disclosures - for example reporting a range of 150 thousand to a million dollars worth of stock holdings.
