But first, A LOOK AT MONEY AND THE ECONOMY. When it comes to managing their money -- women often feel out of their element. Hoping to turn that around, The Women's Fund of New Hampshire sponsored a day of seminars for a LIFETIME of Investing. Tuesday's conversations centered around women with money as well as those without. |

I am a journalist, freelance and getting the issues of women and poverty into mainstream media is not easy ========================= AUTHOR AND SOCIAL CRITIC BARBARA EHRENREICH SPOKE ABOUT THE POLITICS OF POVERTY AT THE WOMEN'S CONFERENCE IN BEDFORD. NOT ONE TO MINCE WORDS, EHRENREICH QUICKLY AIMED HER BARBS AT THE PRESIDENT. ====== Most women marry men of the same social class.means blue collar man.their wages have gone down the most in recent years.so I tried to calculate how many blue collar men a woman would have to marry to climb out of poverty.it turns out to be greater than 2.3 =========================== To be perfectly non partisan about it.it was bill clinton who signed welfare reform into law and I think the bill had written into it a clause that put aside 100-million dollars for chastity education for low income women. ====== 2:19:49-20:01 anyway imagine let your mind dwell on Bill Clinton signing a bill that calls for chastity for poor women.laughs ================================== EHRENREICH'S BOOK " NICKEL AND DIMED' SURVIVING IN LOW WAGE AMERICA" DETAILS HER PERSONAL ACCOUNT OF TRYING TO MAKE IT AS A WAITRESS, A CLERK AND A HOUSEKEEPER. IT'S REQUIRED READING FOR BUSINESS STUDENTS AT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY. =========================== Reading the book I felt what she went thru in a lot of situtations. I've worked in the restaurant industry and I;m working in retail.done all that. I know what it's like to be treated a certain way and I think it's a very fair representation of what it's like to be in that kind of work. ============== Just hearing the author speak was great its a vibrant conference and bit of information I can bring away is wonderful. ================== THE VALUE OF MONEY , THE POWER OF WOMEN. THAT WAS THE THEME OF TUESDAY'S DAY LONG CONFERENCE SPONSORED BY THE WOMEN'S FUND OF NEW HAMPSHIRE. ON THE MENU: WORKSHOPS ON INVESTING AND HOW TO GO FROM MONEY SHY TO MONEY SURE -- ALL AIMED AT MAKING WOMEN MORE FINANCIALLY SAVVY. ======================= you are a money coach and a psyco therapist.that's an unsual combination. its a job that is still unfolding. women and men need to share equally in the decision making whewn it comes to money regardless of who makes more and everybody needs to be educated and empowered arund money. that affects your self esteem and security in the world. =================================== STATISTICS ARE NOT IN WOMEN'S FAVOR WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY MANAGEMENT. THEY LIVE LONGER, EARN LESS AND ARE OFTEN EXCLUDED WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY DECISIONS -- WHICH ONLY HAUNTS THEM LATER. ============ = 50-percent of marriages fail, over 50-percent of 2nd marriages fail.so, the likelihood of a woman having to manager the household money is great in a lifetime. =========================== NOT ONLY WAS THE CONFERENCE ABOUT INVESTING DOLLARS IT WAS ABOUT INVESTING IN ONESELF. WOMEN LEARNING FROM WOMEN. SHARING FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS THAT ALLOW WOMEN AND GIRLS TO MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT THEY HAVE. |

America has long had a love affair with movies and the people that make them. And now, the people that make them are coming to New Hampshire. The third annual New Hampshire film expo was this past weekend. It brought in audiences and filmmakers who all share a common passion for the moving picture. NH Film FestivalReturn to index of stories... |
NH Film Expo: Exterior shot of Opera House with Searchlight --- LIGHTS , PROJECTOR, ACTION! THE THIRD ANNUAL NH FILM EXPO FEATURED FILMMAKERS FROM ALL AROUND. THEY SUBMIT THEIR FILMS WITH THE HOPES OF GETTING THEM SCREENED. THIS YEAR, THE FESTIVAL SCREENED 76 FILMS - EACH AS UNIQUE AS THE FILMMAKERS THEMSELVES. Dan Hannon, festival co-creator "The filmmakers who submit their films here are…they, run the gamut. You have people who haven't done anything. You have people that are just starting out and wanting to learn about new technologies that's why we have the tradeshow and workshops to help build the craft. A UNIQUE ASPECT OF WATCHING A FILM AT A FESTIVAL IS THAT IT'S SOMETIMES INTERACTIVE. DAN - "Actually talking to actual people who are doing the films that you're watching. So you watch a film and you say 'oh, I really like the style' - talk to the director who might be here and say 'hey, how'd you do this, that and the other." THIS YEAR, THE FESTIVAL EVEN WELCOMED SOME FILMMAKERS FROM HOLLYWOOD. MOST PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THIS FACE FROM BEVERLY HILLS 90210. SO, WHAT IS BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN DOING IN DERRY 03038? Brian - I'm here to get some audience response to my film - see what people think. Since it's not finished it's the perfect opportunity to you know - get feedback. Film festivals are great. They're great learning experiences for everyone. BRIAN MADE HIS DIRECTORIAL DEBUT AT THE FESTIVAL WITH HIS MOVIE FISH WITHOUT A BICYCLE. RONNIE MARMO IS AN ACTOR IN THE FILM. Ronnie "We came out to NH to support the film festival because we're filmmakers, we love film. And these guys, their passion is second to none. Dan Hannon, if I had a nickel for every time we spoke in the last few weeks - this guy is great - so how can you not be a part of that - it's inspiring. " DAN -"An opportunity opened up and I said "Hey, you guys are almost done with this film, you know, we got this cool place where you could come test it out while you're editing - get some feedback, go back, and touch it up based on what people who aren't associated with Hollywood think about it your film." Ronnie " In Hollywood, everyone is so used to this whole thing. Somewhat callous to the idea so I think they automatically look for the negative in films and filmmaking. And I love the fact that when you come to New Hampshire, when they watch the movie, these people, I really believe that it's going to be fresh eyes - people who don't have the same sick twisted jealously and different things when they watch a movie there." BRIAN AND RONNIE ARE ALSO THERE TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES. BRIAN DESCRIBES THE TRANSITION FROM PLAYING "DAVID SILVER" TO DIRECTING FOR THE SILVER SCREEN. "Television is just a continuing thing - it becomes a machine. And you just kind of continue to press out what you do and it becomes this well-oiled group that just you know - you go in and you're playing the same character and sticking to the same format and growing with something. And I like film better because I like to move - I'm a mover." 16 OF THE 76 FILMS WERE FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE FILMMAKERS. THE NH FILM EXPO IS JUST ONE OF MANY FILM FESTIVALS IN THE STATE. SLOWLY BUT SURELY, FILMMAKERS ARE BEING DRAWN TO NEW HAMPSHIRE. Dan - "There's not a strong pull for it right now. Most of the films are made in Boston because that's where the equipment is. You can't make a film without equipment - so, rather than lugging it all around, you go where the equipment is. But because of new digital technologies, it has been growing around here." Brian - "It's just going to keep getting bigger and bigger out here, I think. It's doing all right so far. It brought us out from Los Angeles so, it's growing. Stick with it." THE HARD WORK THAT GOES INTO THE FESTIVAL ITSELF IS NOT UNLIKE THE WORK THAT GOES INTO MAKING FILM. We're doing another take! Roll Camera! Roll Sound Action! Tony Shaloub scenes Dan I tell you, making this festival, feels like a film. So many things to get together just like a producer would, you gotta get a crew and get a film and get the location. Same thing. It's so much work sometimes it's overwhelming. Why am into all this crazy stuff? Why did that fire have to get going inside of me to have to act and write and get to know other filmmakers - I think it just stems from the fact that when I was young I loved going to move movie theatres I would live in a movie theatre. I'm still trying to get movie theatres to make something called a "season pass" - just give me a pass so that I can just walk in whenever I want and sit down in a movie and move around movies…I don't know. VETERANS TO THE PROCESS CAN OFFER SOME ADVICE FOR THOSE GRANITE STATERS WHO WANT TO GET STARTED IN FILMMAKING. Brian "You kinda have to just go for it. If you make the decision that you want to do it - um, no matter what your budget is, no matter what your time constraints are you really kinda have to go in just attempting to hit it out of the park every time." Ronnie - "If you want to make a film, make it for yourself. Don't ever, ever give up. It has it's ups and downs. And remember, we're not curing cancer we're just making movies. Which is an important job, I feel. But, we're not curing cancer, so don't take it too seriously, you know what I mean? Where's my latte?" Dan "Have fun. That's what it's all about - just have fun" Show film clip… FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE OUTLOOK, I'M CELENE RAMADAN. |
