HelloReturn to index of stories... |
Hello. I'm Julie Donnelly. Welcome to NH Outlook. |
Preshow #1Return to index of stories... |
In this edition, a near record turnout in Iowa changes the lineup of presidential candidates coming to the Granite State. We're there as the candidates stump. And our analysts help us look to the contest ahead. |
Intro Kerry/EdwardsReturn to index of stories... |
It was a surprising finish in the Iowa caucuses. John Kerry arrives in New Hampshire ahead of the pack with 38-percent of the vote. John Edwards was just behind with 32-percent. Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean was a distant 3rd. And Dick Gephardt's ten percent dealt a final blow to his presidential hopes. Senators Kerry and Edwards fresh from their one two punch in Iowa, hit the ground in New Hampshire today before the sun came up. |
Kerry EdwardsReturn to index of stories... |
Supporters with signs braved the dark and cold to greet more than a thousand Kerry supporters at a hanger at the Manchester Airport. Inside, voters were elated. Some hadn't expected such a decisive win for Kerry in Iowa - where he had trailed Howard Dean and Dick Gephardt just weeks before. SOT 7:27:17 Fran Soucy, Rochester NH "I was surprised, but I think he really got his message out and people see that he is for them" Kerry was visibly tired but thrilled with the turnout. He spoke about issues pollsters say made all the difference in Iowa - health care and the economy. 7:47:20 **Kerry enters**, lots o good b roll here for 2 minutes 7:49 he shakes hands, joins wife in victory sign SOT 7:58:14 "I am running because… economy that works for Americans. That's the priority of this country" ***I will need this**7:49:58 smiley, jovial Kerry's late boost in Iowa was due in part to a softening of his image. One key moment in the late days of the Iowa campaign was his emotional reunion with a man he saved in Vietnam. Kerry's message - decades of experience on foreign and domestic issues - has now been joined with more references to his values and biography SOT 8:31:08 I just want people to look me in the eye…is ready to fight for the American people" Kerry's success in Iowa was also partly due to his ability to mobilize key constituencies, like firefighters and veterans. Vets like Dennis Martin say Kerry's support for those in the military isn't just for show. SOT 8:40:30 Dennis Martin, Londonderry "about 15 years ago, we did a march…and he came down and actually marched with us" It's not yet clear whether veterans, or Kerry's other core groups will have the same effect in New Hampshire as they did in Iowa. When asked what he must do in the next week to win here, kerry had just one word -- Work. Working the crowd,, across town at the Manchester library, North Carolina Senator John Edwards was holding his second event of the day, at least. The surprise second place winner in Iowa was unfazed even when he was heckled by a supporter of Republican fringe candidate Lyndon Larouche. 12:20:16 go john go, followed by heckling, D'ellassando, pushes him, right into SOT12:20:52 " If I can bring this back to a more serious level…not in our America that you and I are going to build together" The heckling continued and it was a reminder to Edwards that New Hampshire is a little bit different than Iowa, where campaigning is relatively mannerly. Still, Edwards vowed to stay positive - whether to hecklers or to his opponents. SOT12:45:26 "it is time to lift up the American people…believes in you Edwards' upbeat message was a factor in his strong Iowa showing and it's likely to impact his candidacy here as well SOT12:55:43 Lucy Hodder, Hopkinton I wasn't surprised… how that energy is taking off Supporters like Hodder say they aren't concerned about Edwards' lack of experience - she says it's refreshing that the one term Senator hasn't spent his whole career in Washington. But others weren't convinced. SOT 13:06:21 Jim Meighan- I wanted to see what Edwards was about…I've made my final decision |
Intro DeanReturn to index of stories... |
After leading the polls in Iowa for months, Howard Dean came in third with only 18% of the vote. After a disappointing finish, the Dean campaign is eager to make a fresh start in New Hampshire. Richard Ager has the story. |
DeanReturn to index of stories... |
Soundup: Dean tape 1 11:11:05 "Hello, how are you?" Track: Hundreds of Dean supporters gathered in Manchester as the final week of primary campaigning began, to send their candidate a message: Bite; Dean tape 1 11:12:55 "I'm still voting for Dean." "I am too." Track: Dean's demeanor in working this crowd was a marked contrast to his emotional appearance the previous night in Iowa after coming in third. soundup: CNN Feed tape #1 00:05:06 "We will not give up in NH." Track: Dean's unexpectedly poor showing, after leading in the polls, was caused by negative campaigning, according to his campaign manager. Bite: James Pindell tape 14:09:26 "The biggest mistake we made in Iowa was going past Dick Gephardt. He had to win Iowa and when we took the lead.and nearly wrecked ours." Standup: Dean tape 2 14:38:14 The Dean campaign is clearly eager to put the Iowa campaign behind it. In his speech, Governor Dean announced he was changing his strategy - the message will now be positive, but still blunt. Bite: Dean tape 1 12:13:41 We need a balanced budget in this country. Track: Dean called again for a rollback of all the Bush tax cuts. Bite: Dean tape 1 12:15:38 Three trillion dollars.college education for every child in the United States of America. Track: Dean's change in style seemed to reassure many of his supporters. Bite: Dean tape 2 13:17:25 I was very pleased. I thought he came back to what he was talking about over a year ago.I think he did." Soundup: Dean tape 2 13:53:25 I maintain that our campaign has been about hope. I know that others have tried to spin as best they can that it's about anger.that's been the message all along. Track: And after losing in the expectations game in Iowa, Dean refused to say if he had to win in New Hampshire. Bite; Dean tape 2 13:52:15 We're going to work as hard as we can to win.not an exception." Track: For NH Outlook, I'm Richard Ager. |
Intro ClarkReturn to index of stories... |
Wesley Clark was a late arrival to the Democratic pack. He didn't run in Iowa. Now he has his sights set on New Hampshire and the fight ahead. |
ClarkReturn to index of stories... |
Wesley Clark - "WE NEED A CANDIDATE WHO CAN TAKE ON GEORGE W. BUSH IN NOVEMBER AND WIN! WE NEED A CANDIDATE WHO CAN STAND UP FOR DEMOCRATIC VALUES LIKE PATRIOTISM, FAITH, FAMILY AND INCLUSION. WE NEED -- WE NEED A CANDIDATE WHO IN TIME OF WAR CAN STAND TOE TO TOE WITH THE PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES AND CHALLENGE HIS LEADERSHIP IN THIS COUNTRY'S NATIONAL SECURITY." ALL PATRIOT, NO ACT! ALL PATRIOT, NO ACT! |
Intro LiebermanReturn to index of stories... |
Senator Joe Lieberman has been focusing all of his attention on New Hampshire as well. And Tuesday, The Union Leader endorsed Lieberman saying he's a "man of conviction". Lieberman spoke to about 100 students at the University of New Hampshire on Tuesday. He urged voters to look at his record as Senator. |
LiebermanReturn to index of stories... |
Joseph Lieberman - "WHEN FOLKS GO TO VOTE HERE NEXT WEEK THEY DON'T HAVE TO BASE THEIR JUDGMENTS ON ME ON A SLICK 30-SECOND TV COMMERCIAL. THEY CAN BASE IT ON 30 YEARS OF PUBLIC RECORD. FIGHTING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE. KNOWING HOW TO GET THE ECONOMY WORKING SO JOBS ARE BEING CREATED. DEALING WITH SOCIAL PROBLEMS LIKE HEALTH CARE, MAKING OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM BETTER AND KEEPING AMERICA STRONG AND SAFE. THAT IS WHAT MY RECORD IS ALL ABOUT. I TELL YOU THIS, I DON'T SAY ONE THING IN ONE PLACE AND ANOTHER THING AT ANOTHER PLACE. THROUGHOUT THE CAMPAIGN IT'S BROUGHT ME HECKLES OR BOOS BUT IN MY OPINION AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES YOU WANT SOMEONE YOU CAN TRUST TO DO WHAT HE OR SHE SINCERELY BELIEVES IS RIGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY. LET'S TALK ABOUT AFTER THE PRIMARY. THIS GENERAL ELECTION. IF YOU FEEL THAT AMERICA NEEDS NEW LEADERSHIP THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND INDEPENDENTS WHO VOTE HERE HAVE TO VOTE FOR SOMEBODY WHO CAN WIN THE ELECTION. I BELIEVE I'M THAT PERSON. GEORGE BUSH BELIEVES I'D GIVE HIM THE TOUGHEST TIME. HE SAID THAT TO SOMEBODY. IT WAS REPORTED IN ONE OF THE NEWSPAPERS. THAT'S ONE POSITION ON WHICH I AGREE WITH GEORGE W. BUSH." |
Intro GephardtReturn to index of stories... |
The Iowa Caucuses dealt a blow to the presidential hopes of Representative Dick Gephardt. He cancelled plans to appear Tuesday in New Hampshire and flew home to Missouri instead where he delivered an emotional farewell speech. |
GephardtReturn to index of stories... |
Richard Gephardt - "Today my pursuit of the presidency has reached its end. I am withdrawing as a candidate and returning to private life. After a long time in the warm light of public service. I'd like to again thank the citizens of the third congretional district. For their support and the privilege and honor of serving them in the congress for going on 28 years. I would also like to thank them for standing by me during this final campaign. My life's work has been fighting for the honor and dignity of their life's work. And I couldn't ask for anything better from life. |
KucinichReturn to index of stories... |
Although Representative Dennis Kucinich finished the Iowa Caucuses in a very distant fifth place he's vowing to continue his campaign. Tuesday afternoon Kucinich gave his state of the nation speech before a small crowd in Bedford. Kucinich remained focused on the war in Iraq and the need to rejoin the United Nations. The speech was delivered live via satellite. |
Intro JamesReturn to index of stories... |
Along with the candidates, Hundreds of news organizations descended on New Hampshire Tuesday, as well. James Pindell of Politics N-H-dot- com talked to Richard Ager about the week ahead. |
James PindellReturn to index of stories... |
WE WILL NOT GIVE UP! James Pindell - "IT'S AN AMAZING LAST WEEK AND MORE OF AN AMAZING NEXT WEEK. WE HAVE TWO CANDIDATES THAT DROPPED OUT IN THE LAST WEEK AND WE HAVE THE TWO PEOPLE WHO WE THOUGHT WERE DEAD JOHN EDWARDS AND JOHN KERRY ARE THE ONES WITH THE MOMENTUM. WE HAD THE TWO PEOPLE WHO WE THOUGHT HAD ALL THE ORGANIZATIONS. HOWARD DEAN AND DICK GEPHART IN IOWA SHOWING THEY DIDN'T. IT'S A WHOLE NEW WIDE OPEN RACE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. FOUR VIABLE CANDIDATES THIS IS THE CENTER OF POLITICAL UNIVERSE." Richard Ager - "TALK ABOUT CLARK. HOW DO YOU THINK THE IOWA RESULTS MAY HAVE EFFECTED HIS CAMPAIGN?" James Pindell - "THERE'S TWO WAYS OF LOOKING AT IT. THE FIRST WAY IS TO SAY IT'S THE WORST POSSIBLE OUTCOME FOR WESLEY CLARK. YOU HAVE A PERSON WHO LIKE JOHN KERRY WHO CHALLENGES, WHO MATCHES THE WAR RECORD THAT WESLEY CLARK HAS AND THEN AT THE SAME TIME YOU HAVE THE POPULOUS MESSAGE FROM THE SOUTH WHICH JOHN EDWARDS HAS WHICH HITS WHAT WESLEY CLARK HAS. IT'S THE WORST POSSIBLE RESULT. BUT YOU COULD SAY IT WAS A GREAT RESULT FOR WESLEY CLARK BECAUSE THE WORST POSSIBLE RESULT THEY SAY AND PROBABLY SPIN IS THAT HOWARD DEAN WOULD WIN BY 10-12 POINTS AND THEN HOWARD DEAN WON IOWA, WON NEW HAMPSHIRE BECAUSE CLARK THE CLARK PEOPLE DON'T BELIEVE THEY'LL WIN THEY WANT TO PLACE WELL AND GO ON TO FURTHER STATES. IF HOWARD DEAN WON BOTH STATES IT WOULD BE." Richard Ager - "THEY WANTED HIM TO BE THE ANTI-DEAN AND THERE'S OTHER CANDIDATES FOR THAT." James Pindell - "THERE'S TWO OTHERS ABSOLUTELY." Richard Ager - "IF NEW HAMPSHIRE DOESN'T COME THROUGH FOR JOE LIEBERMAN AND THE POLLS DON'T LOOK LIKE IT WILL ISN'T THAT BAD FOR HIM?" James Pindell - "YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER NO CANDIDATE GETS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO. JOE LIEBERMAN IS HURTING UNTIL THE MONEY AREA. AND HE HAS TO CONVINCE FUND RAISERS TO GIVE HIM MONEY TO CONTINUE TO STAY IN THE RACE. A POOR SHOWING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE COMBINED WITH NO OTHER STATE EXCEPT FOR DE DE IT'S A HARD ARGUMENT TO MAKES IT WORTH THEIR MONEY." Richard Ager - "LET'S PLAY THE EXPECTATIONS GAME FOR A MOMENT." James Pindell - "LET'S DO IT." Richard Ager - "THE EXPECTATIONS FOR KERRY SINCE HE IS THE SENATOR FROM NEXT DOOR IS THERE MORE PRESSURE ON HIM THAN EDWARDS WHO IS FROM THE SOUTH?" James Pindell - "ABSOLUTELY. EDWARDS DOES -- PROBABLY TO HIS ADVANTAGE BECAUSE EDWARDS DOES FACE PROBABLY THE HARDEST TRANSITION COMING INTO NEW HAMPSHIRE. HE HAS -- HE HAS FLAT LINED IN THE POLLS HE DOESN'T HAVE THE BUZZ AROUND HIM. JOHN KERRY FACES MORE PRESSURE NOW. HE IS THE FRONT RUNNER. YES, HE IS. IT'S AMAZING. FOUR MONTHS AGO WE TALKED ABOUT THIS AMAZING RACE FOR FIRST PLACE BETWEEN HOWARD DEAN AND JOHN KERRY AND THIS NEW GUY WESLEY CLARK JUMPING INTO THE RACE AND THEN IT FADED FOR A WHILE AND NOW LOOK IT'S DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN IT'S HOWARD DEAN AND JOHN KERRY AND THIS OTHER GUY CLARK." |
DiscussionReturn to index of stories... |
Andy Smith - "YOU'RE WELCOME." Julie Donnelly - "TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHY WE WERE SO SURPRISED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN IOWA AND WHY THE POLLS SOMETIMES ARE WRONG. Andy Smith - "IOWA IS AN INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT PLACE TO DO POLLING. THE TURNOUT IS REALLY LOW IN A CAUCUS STATE LIKE IOWA. THAT'S THE BIGGEST PROBLEM. IN PRE-ELECTION STUDIES THE THING YOU HAVE THE MOST DIFFICULT TIME DOING IS WHO IS GOING TO SHOW UP. THE OTHER PROBLEM IN A CAUCUS IS THAT THERE ARE RATHER OLD RULES WHICH RESULT IN CANDIDATES SWAPPING ALEGIANCE IF YOUR CANDIDATE DOESN'T GET 15% OF THE VOTE THERE WELL, YOU CAN GO ON AND MAKE ALLIANCES WITH SOME OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES. Julie Donnelly - "THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED WITH KUCINICH AND EDWARDS, RIGHT. Andy Smith - "YES THERE WERE DEALS BEING MADE. THEY WANT TO GET OVER THE THRESHOLD AND MAKE A POINT. PREDICTING IOWA IS NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO DO. Julie Donnelly - "SO WHAT ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE?" IS THERE ANY MORE CERTAINTY ABOUT THE POLLS THAT ARE BEING DONE NOW? Andy Smith - "NEW HAMPSHIRE IS A LITTLE BIT EASIER TO DO POLITICAL POLLING IN, MAINLY BECAUSE THE TURNOUT IS HIGHER. THERE ARE PECULIARITIES IN NEW HAMPSHIRE TO MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO RUN POLLS HERE IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE LAW AND THE DYNAMICS HERE. THE FIRST THING IS THAT WE HAVE GOT THAT -- THOSE CRAZY UNDECLARED VOTERS PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT REGISTERED AS REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY TURN OUT AT LOWER RATES THAN DO REGISTERED REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATS. THIS TIME AROUND THERE'S NOT A RACE ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE. I'LL GO OUT ON A LIMB AND SAY GEORGE BUSH WILL WIN THERE. ARE A LOT OF UNDECLARED VOTERS WHO ARE REALLY REPUBLICANS. THEY ARE EITHER GOING TO VOTE FOR BUSH. STAY HOME OR MAYBE VOTE TO CAUSE MISCHIEF. FIGURING OUT WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO IS A DIFFICULT THING. WE HAVE ANOTHER LITTLE QUIRK IN THE LAWS HERE YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE REGISTERED TO VOTE IN ADVANCE. ANY TIME YOU DO ELECTION POLLS YOU TRY TO SCREEN PEOPLE OUT. PEOPLE WILL -- IT'S SEEN AS A GOOD THING TO VOTE IN OUR SOCIETY. YOU DON'T WANT TO TELL PEOPLE YOU ARE NOT VOTING OR INTERESTED IN POLITICS. PEOPLE OVERESTIMATE THEIR INTENTIONS OF VOTING. ONE OF TYPICAL SCREENS THAT POLITICAL SCIENTISTS USE ARE ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE. HERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE REGISTERED. YOU CAN SHOW UP ON ELECTION DAY SAY I LIVE IN THIS TOWN I WANT TO VOTE. THEY GIVE YOU A BALLOT AND YOU CAN VOTE. YOU CAN'T SCREEN THEM OUT AS WELL. THERE ARE QUIRKS THAT MAKE IT TRICKY TO POLL. Julie Donnelly - "THAT'S SOMETHING THAT PERHAPS THE DEAN CAMPAIGN IS COUNTING ON?" Andy Smith - "I THINK THEY ARE COUNTING ON GETTING SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAD NOT BEEN REGISTERED TO VOTE IN THE PAST OUT TO THE POLLS AND OARING TO THE TRACKING POLL THAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING WITH FOX AND WCVB OUT OF BOSTON DEAN DOES WELL AMONG THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE BUT PLAN ON VOTING." Julie Donnelly - "HOW OFTEN DO YOU DO THE POLLS AND WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF LATEST ONE?" Andy Smith - "WE'RE RUNNING A TRACKING POLL. WE'RE DOING THREE DAYS WORTH OF INTERVIEWING AND PUTTING OUT THE RESULTS THE NEXT DAY. THE RESULTS TODAY ARE FROM SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY. TOMORROW WILL DROP SATURDAY'S NUMBERS OFF AND TALK ABOUT SUNDAY, MONDAY AND TUESDAY'S NUMBERS. YOU WANT TO DO A THREE-DAY ROLLING SAMPLE TO SMOOTH OUT SOME OF THE DAY TO DAY FLUCTUATIONS THAT YOU CAN GET. IN OUR LATEST POLL THAT WE HAVE -- WE'RE RELEASING TODAY WE HAVE HOWARD DEAN STILL IN THE LEAD AT 33%. JOHN KERRY HAS MOVED INTO SECOND OR BACK INTO SECOND, I SHOULD SAY. HE IS AT 24% NOW. GENERAL CLARK IS AT 18%. MOVED DOWN THERE TO JOHN EDWARD AS THE 8%. JOE LIEBERMAN AT 5%. DICK GEPHART WHO DROPPED OUT WAS AT 3%. THIS WAS BEFORE THE RESULTS OF IOWA WERE PUBLISHED AND DENNIS KUCINICH IS AT 3%. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS INTERESTING NOW IS 6% ARE ONLY UNDECIDED. PEOPLE ARE MAKING UP THEIR MINDS." Julie Donnelly - "DEAN'S NUMBERS HAVE DROPPED WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE THAT TO?" Andy Smith - "HE WAS AT 47% BACK IN DECEMBER. HE WAS TRYING HIGH, GOING GOOD. REALLY ON A ROLE BOTH HERE IN IOWA. THE ONE SOFT SPOT IS THAT HE HAD A TENDENCY TO SAY THINGS AND HAVE TO GO BACK AND EXPLAIN THEM LATER AND MAKE STATEMENTS THAT DIDN'T SIT RIGHT WITH A NUMBER OF PEOPLE. AND POSSIBLY CONTRADICT HIMSELF. WELL, WHEN THIS HAPPENS ONCE OR TWICE PEOPLE CAN SAY WELL HE MISSPOKE OR HE DIDN'T MEAN IT AND EXPLAIN IT AWAY. IF IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN TIME AFTER TIME AFTER TIME AND YOUR OPPONENTS START MAKING AN ISSUE OUT OF IT THEN YOUR CREDIBILITY BECOMES AN ISSUE. WHAT HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS IS THAT HOWARD DEAN'S CREDIBILITY HAS BECOME AN ISSUE. THIS HAS LED VOTERS BOTH IN IOWA AND NOW IN NEW HAMPSHIRE TO RECONSIDER THEIR SUPPORT FOR HIM. CREDIBILITY IS TIED UP TIGHTLY WITH ELECTABILITY A CANDIDATE WHO IS NOT SEEN AS CREDIBLE HAS A TOUGH TIME BEING ELECTED. A NUMBER OF THE VOTERS WHO WERE ON THE DEAN BAND WAGON HAVE STARTED TO REEVALUATE THE SUPPORT IN LIGHT OF CREDIBILITY. THE BENEFICIARIES IN IOWA WERE KERRY AND JOHN EDWARDS. HERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE THE BENEFICIARIES SO FAR SEEM TO KERRY AND GENERAL CLARK." Julie Donnelly - "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO SEE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS YOU DO THE POLLS SINCE YOU HAVE HAD THE RESULTS IN IOWA?" Andy Smith - "I'M NOT A BIG BELIEVER IN THE IOWA BOUNCE. WHAT WE'RE SEEING IS THE SAME SORT OF FORCES THAT CAUSE PEOPLE TO MOVE AWAY FROM DEAN IN IOWA ARE HAPPENING HERE. SO WE'RE SEEING THE SAME THING HAPPEN JUST A LITTLE BIT LATER HERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. MY SENSE IS THAT DEAN MAY SLIP A LITTLE BIT MORE IN THE POLLS BUT HE OUGHT TO STABILIZE BECAUSE HE DOES HAVE A FAIRLY STRONG SUPPORTIVE BASE AMONG DEMOCRATS IN THE STATE." Julie Donnelly - "DOES ANYBODY BENEFIT FROM GEPHART DOING WELL?" Andy Smith - "NOT TOO MUCH. HE WAS ONLY AT 3%. DOESN'T HELP TOO MANY PEOPLE SINCE HE IS NOT GOING TO ENDORSE ANYONE." Julie Donnelly - "WILL YOU BE ON THE PHONES TONIGHT?" Andy Smith - "WE WILL HAVE PEOPLE ON THE PHONES TONIGHT AND PLEASE IF THEY CALL YOU AT HOME, TALK TO THEM NICELY WE'LL BE INTERVIEWING UP UNTIL 9:00 TONIGHT. WE TAKE THE NUMBERS OUT OF FIELD. ANALYZE THEM, PUT TOGETHER THE RESULTS AND TOMORROW YOU CAN WATCH THEM ON THE 6:00 NEWS." Julie Donnelly - "DO YOU HAVE ANY PREDICTIONS?" Andy Smith - " IT'S DIFFICULT TO SAY. THINGS FLUCTUATE DAY TO DAY. IN A SITUATION WHICH IS AS FLUID IN THIS ELECTION I DON'T WANT TO MAC ANY PREDICTIONS. I WON'T MAKE PREDICTIONS ON THE RESULT OF ELECTION UNTIL I SEE THE NUMBERS FROM SUNDAY NIGHT AND THEN WE'LL PUT OUT OUR PREDICTION. THERE'S A LOT OF CAMPAIGNING TO GO OVER THE NEXT WEEK." Julie Donnelly - "THANKS FOR JOINING ME. WE LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING YOU BACK TO SHARE YOUR REACTIONS AFTER THE PRIMARY." |

Intro ArchaeologyReturn to index of stories... |
The next time you look at a pile of New Hampshire rocks, you might want to know that there could be hidden treasures. Or at least the remnants of stone tools thousands of years old. One archaeologist is hard at work, collecting tiny stone fragments that point to a thriving culture stretching back eleven thousand years ago right here in the Granite Sate. Producer Barrett Lester went to dig a little deeper into this emerging story. |
