Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook.
Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is a box office hit.
The scathing documentary about President Bush brought in more money in its opening weekend than any other documentary and it finished number two at the box office over the 4th of July weekend.
It continues to attract movie-goers and is opening in more theaters.
From big cities to small towns, the film has become a magnet for the anti-Bush crowd.
Producer Phil Vaughn saw the movie with a New Hampshire Democrat and Republican to get their opinions.

Movie Maker Michael Moore is said to be heating up the election year with a new kind of political weapon -- what's being called poli-tainment. Here to talk about the Medium and the Message are Garen Daly, a local film booker and reviewer -- and James Farrell, an associate Professor of Communication at UNH.
Q GAREN DALY: In it's first week -- "Farenheit 9/11" became the highest grossing documentary in history -- and continues to draw crowds. How unusual is that for a documentary?

2 JAMES FARRELL: Given The film's success -- Do you expect MOVIE'S and C.D.'s will become the next frontier for political campaigns -- along with the traditional tv AD Buys.
3 GAREN DALY: The movie was dumped by original distributor Disney -- but won top prize at the Cannes film festival.
Is this a documentary in the traditional sense -- or a "satire" as Moore describes it. And, are there different rules of the game ?
==============================
Let's talk about Micheal Moore's style -- the little guy cornerning big guys with tough questions. This scene comes after he asks members of Congress to please send their kids to Iraq to fight in the war they voted for:
======================================
4 JAMES FARRELL: Film Critic Roger Ebert calls Farenheit 9/11 quote: "A compelling and PESUASIVE film, at odds with the White House effort to present Buish as a strong
leader. Will this have a decisive INFLUENCE on the presidential campaign
Is this a persuasive film -- or, will it just energize those who already plan to vote against Bush.
**
5 GAREN DALY: Moore didn't use the IMAGERY of 9/11 - --but, rather the SOUNDTRACK of events that day. Is that effective film-making.What was he going for?
6 JAMES FARRELL: Moore says the FACTS are irrefutable.the OPINIONS are mine.
Clearly "Farenheit 9/11" is partisan. He uses CONFRONTATIONAL comedy in his films.but does that DETRACT from his message -- or, make it?
=================================
FARENHEIT 9/11 is BEING CALLED THE MOST HOTLY DEBATED POLITICAL FILM SINCE OLIVER STONE'S JFK -- 13 YEARS AGO.
LIKE OLIVER STONE, MOORE HAS BECOME A LIGHTENING ROD.
HERE'S HIS RESPONSE TO CRITICISM HE DID NOT RELEASE FOOTAGE HE
HAD OF PRISONER ABUSE IN IRAQ IN THE FIELD -- BEFORE THE
ABU GRAHB PRISON SCANDAL.
=========================
7 JAMES FARRELL: Moore says the FOOTAGE in his movie doesn't lie.
He was given incredible access to some clips. Moore concedes that 1/3rd of those interviewed did NOT know they were talking to a MICHEAL MOORE representative.
Does that detract from what they're saying?
8 GAREN DALY: In Farenheit 9/11 we see less of Michael Moore than we have in his
other films. He says " a little dose goes a long way".
A wise decision?
He didn't want the movie to be about Micheal Moore taking down President Bush -- he wants to MOBILIZE the electorate?
=======
What was your reaction to the clip -- where Pres Bush Knew nation under attack but kept reading to a group of youngsters?
He hired FACT checkers to go over his text. But, there are a lot of innuendo's and
even some conspiracy theories in the film.
=====================
FILM MAKER MICHAEL WILSON HOPES TO HAVE A REBUTTAL DOCUMENTARY IN THEATERS LATER THIS SUMMER. HE'S CALLING THE PROJECT:
"MICHAEL MOORE HATES AMERICA".
=========================
Time Magazine wrote:
"Farenheit 9/11 offers a crash course in an artful documentarian's sleight of hand"

Many members of New Hampshire's National Guard and Reserve are serving their country in the war on terrorism.
On Wednesday, the chancellor of the State University System of New Hampshire "signed" a statement of support for members of the Guard and Reserve with a delegation of senior Guard leaders witnessing the signing.
The document is a formal acknowledgement of the university system's support for the men and women it employs who serve in either the National Guard or Reserve.
The New Hampshire University System has long supported the R-O-T-C program offering courses continuously since the beginning of the program around World War One.

Homeland Security Chief Tom Ridge says there are signs al-Qaeda wants to disrupt the "democratic process" in the United States. Ridge told reporters Thursday that there is "credible" information the terror network is moving ahead with plans for a "large-scale" attack in America. Ridge says the attack would be aimed at disrupting the November election but he says there is NO specific evidence the upcoming political conventions are targets. Boston will host the Democratic National Convention at the FleetCenter beginning on July 26-th. Officials say Ridge thinks it is time to again raise public awareness. Security is expected to be extremely tight during the convention. Ridge says there are NO plans yet to raise the national terror alert level.
