Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook.
Today we're coming to you from NH"s Political Library in Concord
an appropriate setting to discuss the 2004 Vote in which
President Bush won re-election in a tight electoral college vote --
but, lost the NH Vote.
In the Governor's Race -- Democrat John Lynch unseated First term Incumbent
Craig Benson -- the first time that's happened in NH in 78 years.
Throughout the campaign season, the "Pundits" sounded-off --as they always do.
But, we thought it was important to give VOICE to average citizens, hear
what "They" had to say on the issues and candidates -- which is why we launched
our VOTER JOURNALS PROJECT.

Here to talk about the 2004 Vote -- are the familiar faces you've seen on NH Outlook during the campaign.
We refer to them affectionately as the BOX people.
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters:
Jodi Kravitz:
a teacher from Hampton.
Tom and Nancy Donnelly:
Retirees from New London.
Sarah Zuccarelli:
Director of a bird sanctuary in Center Sandwich.
Mark Kelley:
Owner, White Mt Lumber in Berlin.
Thomas DeRosa:
a student at St Anselm College.
ABSENT: Mark Timney:
Professor at Keene State College,.
Let's BEGIN with the GOVERNOR'S RACE
Q SARAH- - start us off. You were frustrated by the Governor's race, the NEGATIVE attacks.
You said it was difficult to make a decision. John LYNCH came out the Victor. What are your thoughts about that.
Q NANCY & TOM DONNELLY: Why do you think BENSON was DEFEATED?
Q MARK KELLEY: You voted for Benson last time around -- liked his business background. How do you feel about the OUTCOME?
Q JODI: You DISAPPROVED of BENSON'S policies -- What do you expect to change in a Lynch administration?
Q THOMAS DeROSA: A Student at St Anselm College --what happened to the STUDENT vote..
What does John Lynch represent to you?
==============
HEALTH CARE
Q What about Health Care and SB-110 -- so called insurance reform.
How BIG a role did that play in your support for a candidate?
MARK KELLEY: you're a small biz owner. You mentioned you changed health plan 3 times in last
5 years. Premiums have SOARED.
Do you EXPECT that to CHANGE -- with Lynch taking over?
THOMAS DEROSA: Your comments seemed to suggest that you support SB-110
and competition in the Health Care Business. You like the notion of
Health Savings Accounts
*Sarah -- NO Health Insurance.
*Tom: Run Health Care like a business.
* Nancy: Nationalize Health Care System.
======
EDUCATION Funding.
Q Is anyone confident that JOhn Lynch will be able to ELMINATE property tax and donor towns?
Q Almost ALL of you seemed to support an INCOME tax to deal with the state's
education funding dilemma. Why THEN does every candidate who talks that talk
end up LOSING?
Can an INCOME tax Fly in NH?
=========
Q George Bush won NH IN 2000 -- LOST NH Tuesday Night.
SARAH: You're a Bush Supporter. What Happened?
Q THOMAS DEROSA: What's your take on what happened in Bush Loss in NH?
==========
Q MEDIA: Let's talk about Election Coverage.
Tom Donnelly: You talked about being DISGUSTED with Media during the campaign.
lack of indepth coverage.
MEDIA very cautious in their Election coverage Tuesday. How would you GRADE them?
===========
Q As far as SHARING your political views with the public --
Did it make you think about the ELECTION in a different way?
Q Best and WORST part of this voter journal experience.
RAN INTO some technical difficulties
Q HOW USEFUL WAS THIS PROJECT IN LEARNING DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES?
Q WHAT DID YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THE EXPERIENCE?
======================
Q ANY SURPRISES FROM TUESDAY NIGHT?
Q OVERALL, HOW DO YOU RANK THIS ELECTION FOR DIALOGUE ON THE ISSUES?
Q ARE YOU OPTIMISTIC about Unity and the Future of our State?
What about the FUTURE of our Country?
