Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. For 30 years local theatre artist Genevieve Aichele has been performing other people's stories but now she is telling her own story. The founder of the New Hampshire Theatre Project is using her one-woman performance entitled "Resurrection" to share her personal struggle with depression and grief. Chip Neal sat down with Aichele at the West End Theatre in Portsmouth to talk to the award-winning artist about her auto-biographical play. |

Aichele premiered her one-woman performance in Portsmouth in 2004. "Resurrection" touched so many people that she brought it back in 2005. Here with me in the studio to talk about the cathartic nature of theater-- and more-- is Genevieve Aichele. Welcome. Q Start from the begining -- How did you first get INVOLVED in Theater? Q Over your 30 years in Theater -- you've been a Director, Actor, Singer, Choreographer. What are you FIRST and foremost? If you had to put those in the order of importance. Q You've worked with OTHER peoples stories. "Ressurection" is YOUR story. How LONG did it take to put this project together? Significance of TITLE? Q You use MONOLOGUES, songs and POETRY -- to tell the story. Do you IMPROVISE, is their a script - or do you TALK the performance. A lot of COMIC observations in RESURRECTION. Was this a MEANS OF THERAPY for you? Q Was this a journey of SELF DISCOVERY, if so, what did you learn about yourself? Q What was the most DIFFICULT part of doing this auto-biographical show? Q So many in the AUDIENCE relate to what you're saying and experiencing Was THAT your objective? What are you hoping people walk away with -- after seeing the show? Q What kind of FEEDBACK do you get from the audience? What do you do with that? Q Who's INFLUENCED your work the most? Q SPAULDING GRAY -- a well-known actor and writer -- ALSO battled DEPRESSION and often SPOKE about it during live performances which gained him NATIONAL attention. Were you INSPIRED by others like him -- who have done AUTO-BIOGRAPHICAL performances?? Q Your Monlogue talks about FALLING APART and COMING TOGETHER --- Do you ever feel EXPOSED in dealing with those PRIVATE emotions in a PUBLIC way? Q Has it been difficult to find a balance in your life and work? BLURRING of the lines. Q Your work as an ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE at dozens of schools. How does that program work? Q Won numerus awards for EDUCATIONAL THEATER. how would you define educational theatre? Q What do you like about working with YOUNG people. They certainly like working with you?- Q You've collaborated with other artists like RANDY ARMSTRONG, a guitarist. In a production called WORLD TALES -- which has been described as" merging MUSIC, MOVEMENT and STORY. Can you tell us about that? Q Soon to premiere: a theater production "Gently Gone" -- about your father -- and his struggle with depression and mental illness-- What did you learn from THAT project? Finally, what young girl doesn't remember her school prom? And what she wore to the big event. For the financially challenged among us, fairy tale endings are sometimes few and far between. But the women of The Cinderella Project of New Hampshire have set out to change that. They don't have magic wands, but the results of their goodwill are just as enchanting. Celene Ramadan first brought us the story in 2003. |

This weekend the Cinderella Project of New Hampshire is hitting the road bringing its inventory to the North Country. Boutiques will be held at the Stratford Public School in North Stratford on Friday and Saturday. Students from schools throughout the North Country and over the border in Vermont are invited to browse the racks of gowns, shoes and accessories. If you are interested in attending the North Country boutiques you should contact the Cinderella Project. All the information you need can be found on our website, NHPTV.org/Outlook. |

The Cinderella Project has also started a program to give military brides-to-be a chance to pick out the perfect wedding gown. The organization has gowns donated by bridal shops from across the state. You can donate or obtain a dress from the Cinderella Project year round. Tuesday, February 22, 2004: We started a bit early, just before 5pm. We rolled two copies of the show so when we finished we could do over the ending and change a dated reference so we would have a show that could run in the summer. We had to fix the credits a bit in the first show and had an audio problem in one of the pieces we had to fix. We finished by 5:45pm. |
