Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook.
It's been a wild ride for New England sports fans with both the Red Sox and Patriots winning world championships.
Even New Hampshire can boast of a championship team: the Fisher Cats.
The Double-A baseball team -- affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays-- captured the Eastern League title last September --and, this season, they're back to defend their title in a brand new ballpark in downtown Manchester.
On a chilly April morning, Chip Neal toured the park, filled with students on hand to watch the NH Fisher Cats take on the Norwich Navigators.

The pricetag for the new ballpark: 20-million dollars.

And. a few writers. like Michael Cousineau, a longtime reporter for the Union Leader.

Cousineau, followed the Fisher Cats 2004 baseball season -- the team's "first" in NH.
The Litchfield author wrote a book chronicling the team's inaugural season and break-through year.
It's titled: "Swinging for the Majors: Inside the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Champion Season."
Michael Cousineau is here with some insights on the team and minor league ball in NH. Welcome.
Q MICHAEL: You're an avid baseball FAN -- who boasts of visiting 30 MAJOR LEAGUE league baseball parks.
Q So, where did this love of baseball come from??

Q MICHAEL: SO -- you're a general assignment reporter for the Union Leader --
business beat, NOT a sports writer -- so, How did this whole BOOK idea come about??
Q You covered the team from Spring-training to the final game:
How big a challenge was that -- given your day job???
Q What would you say was the most EXCITING part of the Season for The Players?
** What was the most exciting part of the season FOR YOU?
Q What do you think of the new ball park in Manchester?
You've been to more than most. How does it STACK up??
Q You covered the ball park -- What does a MINOR LEAGUE TEAM mean to the region's Economy???
Q I would imagine Getting a new ballclub OFF THE GROUND-- poses some unique challenges?
Q It's a new team to Manchester -- how is their fan base????? Seats regularly filled.
Is Manchester a BIG SPORTS town??
Q You describe your book as an INSIDE view of the team.
*** Give us a sense of what life in the MINORS is like.
Everyone focused on making it to the MAJORS???
Q You follow Players more than Teams.
Did you have a FAVORITE player while covering the team? Who? Why?
** Was there someone that stood out -- can you spot a future Major Leaguer?
Q In covering this team -- how CLOSE did they let you get??
** Were you on the bus? In the locker room? In the dugout? In the stands?
Treated as FAN, or reporter??
Q You covered more than just the players -- you touched on Management,
the Mascot, the Front office -- WHY????
Q You detail players nursing injuries, dealing with family issues -- low confidence days.
NOT quite as GLAMOUROUS as some might think??
Q You talk about Players having their own rituals --
What player's SUPERSTITION -- did you think was WACkiest?
Q MICHAEL: Who's idea was it for one of the players
to keep a journal of the season? Why did you decide to INCLUDE this in your book?
Q If you could tell us one thing about the minor leagues that NO ONE KNOWS,
what would it be?
Q Was it tough for the team seeing players go?
Was it tough adapting to new players coming in?
Q Favorite team? Grew up in NY
What do you think about the Red Sox this year?
Wife is a BoSox fan --
Q What was your most memorable experience with the team?
Q What made this team better than the others in the Eastern League? Pitching?
Q How do you see the Fisher Cats playing in the upcoming years? Another championship?
THANKS: MICHAEL COUSINEAU

We started at 5:20pm. We started a bit late due to a pre-planned auction training for the student crew. The show went well. After we taped the promo and had to put in the show slate. We finished just before 6pm.
Director's Log:
It was a straight forward show. All went well.
