Hello/Intro StressReturn to index of stories... |
Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. Stress -- We ALL deal with it at one time or another. A University of New Hampshire researcher is looking to put the spotlight on "women's" experiences of stress and trauma. Its no suprise that Men and women respond to stress and trauma differently. Until recently, the study of trauma was based mostly on the experiences of men. Kathleen Kendall-Tackett -- is working to change that with "The Handbook of Women, Stress and Trauma." Kendall-Tackett is a health psychologist at UNH and Research Associate Professor of Psychology. I sat down with her recently to talk about STRESS -- and how it affects "women's" lives. |

Intro WeddingReturn to index of stories... |
Anyone who's planned a wedding knows how stressful it can be -- especially for the bride-to-be. Spring is traditionally a busy time in the wedding business -- as a lot of couples opt to tie the knot between May and the beginning of October. Ginger THU-lander is the author of a book called "Wedding Day Wisdom" - a light-hearted look at wedding planning -- the details easily overlooked -- and some of the things that can go wrong. The Founder of NH Wedding Magazine sat down with Julie Donnelly to talk about her book -- and what every bride should know in order to avoid some of those wedding-day mishaps. |

Ginger Thulander says if couples are looking to cut costs they should consider a DAY wedding. After all.it's cheaper to pay for lunch rather than a dinner meal. Another sure fire way to keep costs down: cut down the guest list and stick with just close friends and family. The Wedding Planner Anyone who's planned a wedding knows there is a myriad of details involved, especially for the bride-to-be. The traditionally busy time in the wedding business is from May to early October. Tuesday, May 24 Aging in NH Americans are living longer. The number of those 65 and older is expected to double in the next 25 years, thanks to the aging baby boom generation. That means states like New Hampshire have to do some planning in order to be responsive to the diverse needs of these older boomers. In this rebroadcast of an earlier program, we'll profile a couple of centenarians who share their secrets of longevity. Plus we'll look at the graying of New Hampshire and what it means for health care and quality of life issues. In-studio guests include: Peter Francese http:/www.neepecon.org/, a demographics expert from Exeter and Director of Demographic Forecasts for the New England Economic Partnership; Jamie Bulen, from AARP http:/www.aarp.org/nh/; and Pat Francis, Director of the Senior Activity Center of Nashua http:/www.senioractivitycenter.org/ and secretary of the New Hampshire Association of Senior Centers. Wednesday, May 25 Lessons from Pease Air Force Base Now that the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is on the military's base closure list, all eyes are looking to facilities that have seen successful transformations. One of those is just across the river at the Pease Air Force Base. Much has happened in the 14 years since its closure. It is now an international tradeport http:/www.peasedev.org/ which has added dozens of companies and thousands of jobs to the area. Is it possible to realize similar successes at the Shipyard? We'll revisit some images of the past and look ahead with in-studio guests Craig Seymour, Vice President of Financial Strategies for RKG Associates, www.rkg1.com and Ross Gittell, Professor of Management and Economics at the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business. http:/pubpages.unh.edu/~rgittell/ Thursday, May 26 Outlook on Money: Home Buying In our continuing Outlook on Money series, we'll look at the basics of buying a home. He received support from the Manchester Neighborhood Housing Services http:/www.mnhs.net/ , learned the nine steps to buying a home and eventually achieved his goal. This program is for those who feel that home ownership is out of their reach. Friday, May 27 Friday Edition Journalists from around the state discuss the week's top stories. Guests TBA. |
