Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook.
Did you know that April is National Humor Month?
It's also National Straw Hat Month and National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Month?
If this makes you laugh, that's good.
Joyologist, Coach, and Certified Laughter Leader, KC Christensen-Lang says adults only laugh an
average of 15-17 times a day -- compared to children who laugh 300-400 times a day.
As the owner of the Maine-based Coaching and Laughter Services company: "Happiness Is.," Christensen-Lang is on a mission to change that.
For the past two years, she's been working to increase laughter at sessions like this one.
She instructs clients, worldwide, on how to decrease stress, increase happiness, and lead more inspired, fulfilling lives.
KC Christensen-Lang is here to help us find more laughter.
Welcome!
Q Why arent' we laughing more?? How can we take ourselves less seriously???
Q So, how can we all laugh MORE? Are there "laughing exercises?"
Q Need to find HUMOR in EVERDAY situations--but, HOW do you do that?
Q How does one become a JOYOLOGIST?
Q You teach people of all ages and professions LONG-TERM strategies for staying joyful.
Where do you begin?

BETH: Should point out: Laughter is NOT the same as Humor. Laughter is the PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE to humor It does great things for the body. LAUGHTER may just be the BEST Medicine.
Does HUMOR have HEALING power??
===
KC you'll find this interesting: New Research at The University of MD School of Medicine found that: LAUGHTER causes tissue in blood vessels to EXPAND thus increasing blood flow -- which means LAUGHTER could reduce the risk of cardio-vascular diseases.
Q Some say the BENEFITS of laughter are much like the benefits you get from aerobic excercise.
Certainly OFFSETS mental STRESS.
===============
BETH: Here's a clip of you in action -- showing how you get people to stand-up and laugh!
everbody getting in the act -- chuckling. Is Laughter CONTAGIOUS??
Do we LAUGH more in GROUPS?
Q Why don't we all laugh at the same things.
Kids find a lot of things humorous -- adults less so. WHY is that???
=============================
Q Okay.don't you ever get depressed? We all have DOWN days -- how do you combat that?
Q Can people learn to laugh more and be more joyful?
Q Is our sense of humor "BUILT-IN"? After all, Some of us have a better sense of humor than others?
=======
Q You are a former CEO: 27 years experience in human service administration, management of nonprofits, PR, marketing, fundraising, development and community outreach.
How then did you become a LIFE COACH/Joyologist/ certified LAUGHTER leader? WHY??
Q What is a laughter club?
Q KC: I understand you often use "props" --to help LAUGHTER along? what's the purpose of that?
Q You've conducted laughter programs at assisted living facilities.
Do you have a specific strategy depending on the group you are working with?
Q Are children easier to work with - more PRONE to laugh?
Q How did you come up with the idea to start a company like "Happiness Is."?
Q How do personal and business coaching differ? Or in what ways are they the same?
Q What about the benefits to companies? Does increased happiness increase teamwork and productivity?
Q Who needs a life/laughter coach?
Q Are there basic principles and methods of coaching?
Q At the end of a session or presentation, what do you hope for a participant to walk away with?
Q IF there's one message you want to get across to people as we close out -- what would it be?/
===================
Q There's a certain amount of intelligence involved in "getting" a joke -- Does our senses of humor become more developed as we learn more??
Q For the first time in New Hampshire and Maine, there's a World Laughter Day -- this year it's May 1st -- how important is that? Who designates a day for that? Why May?
Human beings love to laugh, and the average adult laughs 17 times a day. Humans love to laugh so much that there are actually industries built around laughter. Jokes, sitcoms and comedians are all designed to get us laughing, because laughing feels good. For us it seems so natural, but the funny thing is that humans are one of the only species that laughs. Laughter is actually a complex response that involves many of the same skills used in solving problems.

They were laughing it up in Portsmouth during the 2-nd annual "New Heights Live" event in March.
The night of music and comedy at The Music Hall featured funny man Joe Piscopo.
The event was a tribute to Piscopo's friend, the late Luke Luacaw -- a Seacoast resident who provided security for executives and celebrities like Piscopo.
When Luacaw died suddenly in 2003 -- Piscopo told his wife he'd be happy to perform in Luke's honor.
It's now become an annual event that raises money for New Heights-- the Seacoast's largest out-of-school program for young people.
Photo-journalist Todd Ziemek takes us to "New Heights Live."
