Hello. I'm Richard Ager. Beth Carroll is off. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. Being able to get around is something most of us take for granted. Our jobs and other activities depend on it. But for some seniors, traveling is more a challenge than a right. Many communities in New Hampshire don't have public transportation and it's leaving some people feeling stranded. As part of our ongoing series Seeing Seniors, Phil Vaughn brings us a story from Sullivan County where he met a woman on a mission to get a ride. |

So, is Rita's situation typical? That's one of the questions we're going to ask our guests. Christine McMahon is the COO of Easter Seals, New Hampshire; Kit Morgan is Administrator of the Bureau of Rail and Transit at the New Hampshire Department of Transportation; Van Chesnut is the Chair of the New Hampshire Transit Association and Executive Director of Adance Transit of Lebonon. Thank you all for being with us. Is Rita's situation typical? 2. How much of this is a rural issue? 3. Van - you helped establish public transportation in the Lebanon/Hanover area - how did that happen? 4. Part of the issue is that some communities are not able to access all the federal dollars they are entitled to because they can't raise matching local funds. How can that change? 5. What are some of the possible solutions to helping people like Rita - people who do not have access to public transportation yet need it? 6. How can the state's departments, such as DOT and HHS work more effectively together in sharing resources? 7. Why haven't departments been working more closely? 8. Why doesn't the state provide more funding ? What needs to happen for that to change? |
