Hello/Intro TransportReturn to index of stories... |
Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. Throughout this program we'll be focusing on issues impacting seniors in the Granite State. Transportation is one of those issues. It's a major concern among seniors. For some, traveling has become a huge challenge. Many communities in New Hampshire don't have public transportation-- leaving some people feeling stranded. Outlook's Phil Vaughn has this Seeing Seniors report from Sullivan County where he met a woman from Cornish with a mission to get a ride. |

Since we first aired that story, Sullivan County has received a planning grant to study how public transportation can be improved and made more efficient. |

For millions of Americans, caregiving is a job they take on when they least expect to. Long after children grow up and move out-- many adults find themselves back in the care-giving role -- this time with ailing parents or spouses. As baby-boomers age, many will be faced with taking care of loved ones -- or, in need of care themselves. Outlook's Phil Vaughn explore's some of the challenges, surprises and rewards of caregiving in this Seeing Seniors report. |

Intro House Calls Return to index of stories... |
As aging baby-boomers begin retiring, the effects on the overall economy will be substantial including the growing cost of health care for this burgeoning population. One way to reduce costs is to keep people in their homes and "out" of expensive nursing facilities as long as possible. That's the goal of "Community House Calls"-- a private company in Chester that specializes in providing in-home support for seniors who need help. Outlook's Chip Neal continues our "Seeing Seniors" series with this report. |
