Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook.
Winter in New Hampshire is a time for enthusiasts to hit the trails snowmobiling.
But riding a snowmobile can be dangerous.
Riders must have a valid driver's license or must successfully complete an off-road recreational vehicle safety class to cross public ways in New Hampshire.
Outlook's Phil Vaughn had the chance to meet with NH Fish and Game's Major Tim Acerno to talk about how to ride safely.

Those convicted of certain snowmobiling violations in NH are REQUIRED to take a "responsible riders" class sponsored by Fish and Game.
During the class they'll hear a personal story about a mother who lost her son in a snow-mobiling accident.
As Outlook's Phil Vaughn tells us Fran Tishkevich wants them to know that along with the fun there are also dangers of snowmobiling.
script iconIntro Bike Helmets
Return to index of stories...
As of January 1st, 2006 a new law took effect requiring anyone under 16 who rides a bike in New Hampshire to wear a helmet.
So what should parents look for when they buy a helmet for their children?
Outlook's Richard Ager went to Dick's Sporting Goods in Newington to find out.
script iconTag Bike Helmets

One final word of advice about helmets: if a rider is in an accident, their helmet should be replaced since even hairline cracks can reduce the protection a helmet can offer.

Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook, I'm Beth Carroll.
There are nearly seven thousand miles of snowmobile trails throughout New Hampshire and they accomodate a lot of snowmobilers.
With the season gearing up, we want to share with you a story about a mother, her son and a message.
Fran Tishkevich speaks to snowmobile riders through a program sponsored by New Hampshire Fish and Game.
She wants them to know that along with the fun usually associated with snowmobiling -- there are also dangers.
Her words are personal and poignant.
Producer Phil Vaughn has the story.

Tonight show was just tapes but we had a few problems. I goofed once as we were getting into the preshow but some of the other's were AD eras. Like Beth's name didn't reveal off, turns out we can't use the show folker template one, it sticks. We had no time ques for one pkg and we had to guess.not so good. And the NEXT tape needs to add chroma from now on and quicken the animation of the keys faster.
And the AD did not fix the wipe on the ess for credits.
Other than that.it worked okay.

Snowmobile Safety
A winter storm advisory is usually bad news for travelers in New Hampshire, but it's welcome news to snowmobile riders. Every winter, thousands of snowmobilers take to the nearly 7,000 miles of trails that zigzag through the Granite State’s countryside. Riding safely and within the law is a concern for Major Tim Acerno of the NH Fish and Game Department. Major Acerno shows us how to safely ride a snowmobile this winter.

Head Gear
A new law requires all children under 16 to wear helmets while cycling. These days, there are helmets for all kinds of winter, spring, summer and fall sports. NH Outlook’s Richard Ager learns how to get the right fit for sports head gear for all seasons.

John Gianforte’s January Skies
There’s nothing like stargazing into the long, dark, clear and chilly January skies. Amateur astronomer John Gianforte shows us what to look for and where to look. We’ll also learn about two intriguing NASA programs called Stardust and New Horizons.

Forest safaris, royal crayons, and peanut butter and jelly fish were the subjects of winning stories in last year’s 11th annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. A story by Isabel Dawson of Andover, Mass., won first place in NHPTV’s kindergarten category and came in 2nd place nationally. The young author and illustrator talks about her story, “Me and My Fort,” and what inspired her to write it.
