Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to NH Outlook.
When veteran dogsledder Arthur Walden wanted to create a breed of powerful sled dogs, he crossed a St. Bernard mix with a Greenland Husky and the gentle, fun loving Chinook sled dog was born.
That was January 17-th, 1917 on Walden's farm in Wonalancet.
The story of the Chinook dog breed begins in New Hampshire but Walden's adventures took him and his canine to Antarctica where the tale takes a twist that separated Walden and Chinook forever.
Their story is this week's NH Original.

Return to index of stories...
Owners of Chinook dogs make annual pilgrimages to a different state every year.
2005 was the first time the "Chinook specialty dog show" brought the dogs "home" to New Hampshire.

Return to index of stories...
He's a Mountaineer, Educator, Explorer, Cartographer-- it takes a while to list the accomplishments of Brad Washburn.
Together with his wife Barbara, Brad Washburn-- who's in his 95-th year-- has led a life dedicated to increasing our understanding of the world around us.
He's mapped the Grand Canyon and Mt. Everest, but also worked closer to home, mapping Mt. Washington and creating the first chart of Squam Lake.
And did we mention he's a master photographer praised for his work by his friend Ansel Adams?
Richard Ager first introduced us to Brad Washburn in 2005.
