Hello, I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to NH Outlook.
We're coming to you from the NH Political Library in Concord -- a fitting backdrop - as we take the political pulse of the 2008 presidential election.
As a swing state NH could be crucial to winning the White House.
The state's "first-in-the-nation" primary may be long over -- but, with the political conventions just weeks away presidential politics have hardly faded into the background.
As Outlook's Richard Ager shows us, while the rest of the nation was finishing up primaries, the general election campaign had already moved on to the Granite State.

N.H. Dems react to Obama convention announcement
By Brian Lawson
Category: PresidentTags: Ray Buckley, Obama convention speech, Jim Demers, Invesco field, Democratic National Convention
The leader of the New Hampshire Democratic Party and a senior advisor to the Obama campaign are praising U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's decision to hold the convention speech at Denver's Invesco field at Mile High.
The Democratic National Convention Committee announced this morning that the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee would deliver his convention speech at a stadium that can hold 75,000 people.
"I think this will be the most open Democratic convention in the history of the Democratic Party," said Jim Demers, a senior advisor to Obama's New Hampshire campaign. "This will be an opportunity for tens-of-thousands of people, who might not otherwise be able to participate, to attend the convention. It should make for a great kick-off to the campaign."
Ray Buckley, Chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, said the speech might be "one of, if not the greatest ever."
"The acceptance speech at every convention is always the highlight, but this night will even be one of, if not the greatest ever," Buckley said in an e-mail. "Combining the excitement of the campaign, Senator Obama's oratory skills, this history making of the first person of color to be nominated AND that it is happening exactly 45 years to the day of Dr. King's 'I Have a Dream" speech' - this will be a night that will be a lasting and special memory for not only the 75,000 in the arena but the millions who will watch it on tv across the nation and around the world. I could not be more thrilled."

Hillary and Bill Clinton combined media coverage equaled McCain's total
by Mark Jurkowitz, Associate Director, Project for Excellence in Journalism
July 1, 2008
From: To:
Nearly one month after Barack Obama effectively claimed the Democratic nomination, the fallout from the party's long, and at times bitter, primary fight dominated last week's campaign narrative.
With Obama and Hillary Clinton's joint New Hampshire campaign appearance driving the coverage, the theme of divided Democrats -- and efforts to unite them -- accounted for nearly one-quarter of the campaign newshole for the week of June 23-29, according to PEJ's Campaign Coverage Index. When you add in the seemingly uneasy relationship between Obama and Bill Clinton, speculation about the vice-presidential pick and the Denver convention, the chunk of election coverage related to the Democrats' intra-party issues swells to 29%.

News organizations continued to focus a great deal of attention on the presidential campaign last week, but the public was more interested in news about the rising price of oil and the overall economy.
